Do I need to know how to code?
No. You follow steps in a terminal or in the Claude or OpenAI Codex app, and we do it together. You set the rules, and the coding agent writes the code.
Does AI write my music?
No. You build tools that work from rules you set, like a tool that turns a chord clip into an arpeggio. Every creative call stays yours.
Why not just buy a plugin?
A plugin comes with its maker's way of working, and you have to learn it. An extension starts from the way you already work and does the job you chose for it.
Why not just ask a coding agent on my own?
You can try. In this workshop you get my skills pack for Claude Code and OpenAI Codex, which I built, test and keep developing to make creating Ableton extensions as simple as possible. You also build live with me, with your questions answered as we go.
What do I need?
Ableton Live 12 Suite and the Live 12 Suite Beta, version 12.4.5 or later. The beta is free for Suite owners through Ableton's beta program on Centercode. You also need Node.js v24.16.0 (LTS) or later, the free Ableton Extensions SDK, and Claude Code (Claude Pro or higher) or OpenAI Codex (ChatGPT Plus or higher). Extensions are not available in Live Standard, Intro or Lite.
Who is this not for?
It is not for you if you don't have Ableton Live 12 Suite, or if you want AI to make your tracks for you.
Do I need to set anything up before the session?
Yes. The workshop is two hours live, plus a setup you do before the session. A few days before the workshop, I'll send you a setup guide with a checklist and a short video. It walks you through everything, including the Live beta and Node.js.
Does it work on Mac and Windows?
Ableton supports Extensions on both macOS and Windows. I'll demonstrate everything on a Mac and can't promise every step looks the same on Windows, so expect to adapt a few of them.
What will I build?
Working Ableton extensions for everyday jobs in Live, like tidying up your session or working with MIDI clips. You run each one from the right-click menu on a clip or track, it does its job once, and you get the result. Then you shape them to fit your own workflow.
What can't extensions do?
Extensions run once on a task and then stop. They don't process audio or MIDI in real time, and you can't build synths, samplers or audio effects with them. For that, Ableton points you to Max for Live.
What if the agent gets it wrong?
That's part of the session. We spend a full block on errors, better prompts and iterating.
What if I can't attend live?
You get the recording. Missing the live session is not grounds for a refund.
